Summer School 2025: Science Communication

Communicating scientific results is an essential part of research. A significant aspect of this communication involves engaging public audiences. Therefore, science communication is a key skill that all PhD students must develop during their training. In this Summer School, you will learn about science communication through lectures, workshops, and by creating your own science communication product.

Topics include:

  • Storytelling
  • Different forms of science communication
  • Using AI for science communication
  • Misinterpretation by the media or public

Practical Work:
You will work alone or in small groups to develop a science communication product related to your research (or that of your group members). You will choose one form of science communication to focus on:

  • Written (e.g., blog post, article)
  • Spoken (e.g., science slam, podcast)
  • Visual (e.g., video abstract, social media clip)

At the end of the week you will prensent your product during our small science festival.

The summer school is aimed only at students enrolled in the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering and PPHS. Registration is free and includes transportation, course fees, accommodation in shared rooms, catering, and a social event.

As we have a limited number of places, will give priority access to DBE students who have never participated in a summer school and who are in their final stage of doctoral studies (since participation in at least one summer school is mandatory before graduation).
