Rauter associate member of NCCR Robotics, chair of IFToMM Switzerland
Georg Rauter is now associate member of the National Centre of Competence in Research Robotics. Further, he is designated chair for the membership organization Switzerland of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science IFToMM.
The NCCR Robotics develops new, human oriented robotic technology for improving our quality of life. As associate member, Rauter and his BIROMED Lab will especially contribute a holistic view of robot development from the idea to industrial-grade devices that are based on user-centered designs, expertise in human-robot-human interaction, human-in-the-loop strategies, force sensing technologies, and semiautonomous and autonomous robot-operation for surgical and rehabilitation tasks. Politically speaking, Rauter will represent the University of Basel within the consortium, thus complementing a group of experts from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, University of Zürich, Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull’Intelligenza Artificiale Lugano, University of Bern, and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology.
IFToMM promotes research and development in the field of machines and mechanisms by theoretical and experimental methods, along with their practical application. The Federation operates worldwide, organizing a series of global conferences in a 4-year rhythm. As chair of IFToMM Switzerland, Rauter is the successor of Hannes Bleuler and Reymond Clavel. In his new role, Rauter will focus on efforts to attract a young audience and promote interest in the emerging field of robotics.
