As a unit of the Computational & Translational Pathology Lab, the Pathology Morpho-Proteomics Lab discovers and validates prognostic tissue biomarkers by simultaneously analyzing morphological and proteomic data acquired from diagnostic tissue samples readily available in the pathology lab. By developing novel prognostic biomarkers that inform clinical outcomes, the lab principally aims to support clinicians with patient risk stratification, treatment personalization and disease progression monitoring.
In close partnership with pathology labs, we analyze histological tissue specimens at scale from diverse cancer types as well as non-neoplastic diseases and we combine modern tissue analysis technologies for a top-down spatially-resolved approach to proteome profiling, by combining whole slide imaging with computer vision and untargeted tissue proteomics through histology-guided laser capture microdissection and high-precision mass spectrometry. By design, our experimental approach enables the effective implementation of the developed morpho-proteomic biomarkers to the clinic in the form of immunohistochemistry assays paired with dedicated digital pathology software.
