Congratulations to Dr. Anas Taha, head of the Surgical Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL) and senior attending surgeon in visceral surgery at Kantonsspital Baselland, who has been awarded his habilitation and Venia Docendi in image-guided therapy in the field of Biomedical Engineering by the University of Basel.
Anas is the first visceral surgeon to receive a Venia Docendi in this field in Switzerland, highlighting the growing interplay between surgical practice, biomedical engineering and technology-driven medicine.
At SAIL, Anas and his team explore how artificial intelligence, medical imaging and surgical technologies can be combined to advance image-guided interventions and support more precise and data-driven treatment.
Alongside his research and teaching activities at DBE, Anas works clinically as a consultant in visceral surgery at Kantonsspital Baselland and also leads a research team within the Department of Surgery, focusing on implement and translating artificial intelligence into clinical practice.
His habilitation marks an important milestone in his academic career and recognises his contributions to research and teaching at the intersection of visceral surgery, biomedical engineering and image-guided therapy.
