2nd place in the ESMRMB 2025 General Audience Pitch for Sabine Räuber

2nd place in the ESMRMB 2025 GAP Competition for Sabine Raeuber

Sabine Räuber, PhD student in the Basel Muscle MRI (BAMM) group, led by PD Dr. Francesco Santini, took 2nd place in the ESMRMB 2025 General Audience Pitch (GAP) competition.

The GAP awards—given annually to the top 1st, 2nd, and 3rd science‑communication videos—celebrate researchers who translate complex work into clear, accessible language for the general public. Participants create short videos that explain the challenges of their research, their contributions, and the broader significance of their findings.

In her winning video, which she created during the DBE's last Summer School dedicated to scientific communication, Sabine highlighted her development of an open‑source grip‑force sensor that can be used inside an MRI scanner to monitor patients’ muscle activity. She emphasized that the device’s open‑source design allows anyone to build and employ it in their own studies, reinforcing her group’s commitment to democratizing science and fostering more inclusive, impactful research
