Micro- & Nanotomography (MiNa)

The Core Facility Micro- & Nanotomography “MiNa” offers advanced, X-ray-based, non-destructive 3D imaging that allows you to see inside objects without cutting or damaging them. Using X-ray microtomography, we create detailed cross-sectional images by combining several thousand X-ray images taken from different angles. This allows us to visualize internal features in a wide size range from 150 nm to 70 µm.

Our imaging techniques capture both the internal structures and external shapes of objects and support multiple modes, including absorption, phase-contrast, and high-resolution imaging in the sub-micrometer range. These capabilities make our technology suitable for numerous applications, from biomedical research and materials science to engineered systems and geological investigations.

MiNa's microtomography systems are used for a variety of research projects at the DBE, other departments of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel. They are also frequently used by the Natural History Museum Basel and various other institutions. In addition to users from Basel, external research groups, museums or industrial companies can also use the Core Facility.
