On March 17, 2026, Prof. Dr. Florian Thieringer, head of Swiss MAM, hosted final-year students from Liestal High School at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University Hospital of Basel.

During the visit, the students gained a concrete insight into modern medicine, particularly the advancements in 3D printing applied to surgery. They visited state-of-the-art laboratories and had the opportunity to speak directly with the teams about their daily practice and ongoing innovations.

A highlight of the afternoon was the discussion with Prof. Thieringer, which allowed the students to ask questions in a friendly atmosphere and explore current challenges in medicine.

This experience may well inspire future careers—we look forward to perhaps welcoming some of these enthusiastic students to the DBE in the years ahead.
