The DBE congratulate Prof. Cristina Granziera on her appointment as Clinical Professor of Translational Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine, based at the University Hospital Basel (USB). She will take up her new position on January 1, 2026

Cristina Granziera is Titular Professor of Neurology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Basel and heads ThINk (Translationa Imaging in Neurology) Basel at the DBE. She is  Senior Physician for Neurology at the USB and Co-CEO of the Research Center for Clinical Neuroimmunology and Neuroscience Basel (RC2NB). She brings an exceptional international academic and clinical profile, and the DBE is proud to count her among its members.

Her research is dedicated to elucidating the pathophysiological mechanisms of neuroinflammatory, neurodegenerative, and cerebrovascular diseases and translating these insights into innovative approaches for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy. Using advanced neuroimaging, Cristina Granziera has made seminal contributions to the identification of biomarkers of tissue repair in multiple sclerosis, to the understanding of structural brain plasticity following stroke, and to the characterization of neurodegenerative processes underlying clinical deterioration. Furthermore, she pioneers integrative models that combine advanced imaging, clinical data, biomarkers, digital parameters, and AI-supported analyses to better capture and predict disease dynamics. This visionary work is shaping new avenues for personalized neurology and novel therapeutic strategies.
