National Future Career Day | Nationaler Zukunftstag

The Department of Biomedical Ennineering participates in the annual National Future Career Day and helps to address the problem that many educational and occupational fields are still predominantly chosen by women or men. In order to open up “New Perspectives for Girls and Boys” we invite groups of young people in the 5th to 7th grade to our labs and make them participate in our work like CT-scanning an chocolate egg and inspecting it in Virtual Reality or 3D-printing stuff.

National Future Career Day 2023

On 9 November 2023, 12 children aged 11 to 13 were able to immerse themselves in the world of biomedical engineering and learn more about DBE innovations. Among other things, they traveled inside the body with VR goggles, dived into a laser maze, x-rayed a surprise egg to discover what was hidden inside without opening it, and designed their own key ring in the 3D printing lab. It was a great pleasure to get to know the next generation of researchers!

My highlight was the 3D glasses because I think it's cool that they are so useful. But everything else was cool too. I would like to work there because I like technology and medicine. The building was also super cool and there was a good atmosphere.

I learned a lot: how a doctor uses VR, what an AI is and what you can do with it. How to use a laser correctly and how it is reflected, how to do X-rays - I found the example with the chocolate egg very impressive. And of course what and how to use a 3D printer correctly.
