In an interview with Uniplus Magazine, Yukiko Tomooka, a PhD student at BIROMED-Lab, shares her journey as a young researcher in Basel and at the Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE).
Yukiko Tomooka has been researching surgical robotic systems at the BIROMED-Lab since more than three years. Her path to BIROMED-Lab began after obtaining her master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Hokkaido University and working experience in the industry, driven by her desire to pursue a PhD and to find an exciting and meaningful job. As part of the MIRACLEII project, Yukiko is working on developing a miniature robot for accurate positioning in medical interventions, in close collaboration with researchers and clinicians.
