Establishing a novel Titanium-surface modification for improved biocompatibility and tissue response of Polyetheretherketon (PEEK) implants
The aim is to manufacture and launch a novel Titanium-surface modification for Polyetheretherketon (PEEK) implants. Surface improvement of PEEK should allow for a faster and more stable hard and soft tissue integration. Thereby, fully taking advantage of PEEK as bulk implant material and titanium as surface coating.
Preclinical and clinical tests will set the proof-of-principle to bring a pioneering concept into the market. In collaboration with the University of Oxford, UK a novel Titan-coated PEEK implant could be developed and implanted in primates for neurophysiological research. The successful implantation already led to a high interest in this technology also from other groups in Europe.
