Resume

Peter von Niederhäusern first studied Computer Science at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (B.Sc., and Dipl. Ing. FH), with a focus on image processing and computer graphics. In 2013, he received his master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering of the University of Bern. The thesis, conducted in close collaboration with the University of Basel, involved the development of a computer simulation to assess age-related macular degeneration. In 2016 he started his Ph.D. studies at the CIAN research group of the University of Basel where he develops novel visualization methods for nuclear medicine specialists to facilitate biopsy interventions, and better minimally invasive navigation techniques to improve surgical procedures.

Peter has several years of professional experience as a systems engineer, server administrator, and software application developer in the tourism, air defense and health care industries, and academia. He is also a part time lecturer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences where he teaches introductory classes for Computer Science undergraduates.

Apart from applied research, Peter is interested in sports, mainly cycling and running, and the occasional smashing of volleyballs, the marvels of the universe, and all things involving technology and research and their implication for society.
